Basketball Winnipeg | Basketball Basics & Beyond Basics is a 10-session program that builds fundamental skills for players ages 5–15. Led by coach Brad who is the assistant coach of the John Taylor Varsity team and has more than 20 years of experience coaching youth basketball.

The programs are designed to help athletes build their game in a positive and structured environment.

Basketball Basics | A fun and structured basketball program for kids 7-12 years old.

Our Basketball Basics program is designed to teach young players essential basketball skills while fostering teamwork and confidence. Whether your child is new to the game or looking to improve, this program will help them:

Beyond Basics | Advanced, Competitive Training for young athletes 13-15 years old.

Basketball Winnipeg | Are you a young athlete ready to step up your game? Our new competitive basketball program is designed for experienced players aged 13-15 who are looking to:

  • Sharpen their skills with advanced drills and techniques.

  • Build game IQ and make smarter plays on the court.

  • Develop teamwork and communication for competitive success.

  • Prepare for higher-level competition in school or league play.

Led by experienced coaches with a passion for youth development, this program bridges the gap between learning fundamentals and dominating in competitive basketball.

Meet the Coach

Brad Arsenault began his basketball coaching career in 2002 as an assistant coach for the Junior Varsity team at Widdifield High School in North Bay, Ontario.

He later coached the Raptorball youth basketball program for children ages 6 to 13 and has served as a varsity high school head coach. He is currently an assistant coach with the John Taylor Collegiate Pipers Varsity Boys Basketball Team. Brad has also coached the Steve Nash Youth Basketball program and the Jr. NBA. He is currently working toward his National Coaching Certification through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).

Brad's coaching philosophy emphasizes strong fundamentals and long term athlete development. His programs are designed to progressively build skills through structured drills and small sided games, helping athletes develop confidence, improve physical literacy, and gain a deeper understanding of the game.

Outside of coaching, Brad enjoys playing basketball with his children, golfing, playing chess, and reading. He holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and has proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for more than 25 years. His goal is to make basketball accessible, enjoyable, and rewarding for young athletes of all ages in the community.

All Youth Basketball Program sessions are held at:

Sturgeon Heights Community Centre, 210 Rita St, Winnipeg, MB R3J 2Y2

Please arrive a few minutes early to allow time for check in and to be ready for the start of your session.
